Linux System Administrator

We are currently seeking a MySQL Database Administrator (DBA) and Linux Engineer to provide day-to-day operational and project-based support for our managed services clients. We have clients that need support for their MySQL database and Linux server environments. As a MySQL DBA / Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining server and database uptime, performance, data projects, security, upgrades or development as necessary to provide the highest level of support to all managed services clients.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide remote database and operating system support for our managed services clients out of our Chicago office
  • First line technical database and Linux OS support – tracking issues and coordinating with both client product teams to resolve database issues
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the client’s business model, data requirements and technology that supports it
  • Assessing and defining technical configuration to meet client specific requirements
  • Writing, maintaining, and optimizing database functions including queries, indexes, stored procedures, views, and triggers
  • Assessing, maintaining, and executing ETL processes
  • Defining, documenting, and implementing database maintenance plans
  • Performing analysis and documenting existing database designs with recommendations on changes that will support maintainability and optimal performance
  • Assistance with software deployment and management of the technical infrastructure
  • Assist in the design of resilient, redundant, fault tolerant, and scalable infrastructure solutions for Linux environments
  • Act as a technical lead for new Linux infrastructure deployments or upgrades

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years of hands-on professional development experience
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Certifications in Database Administration and Development or Linux administration is preferred
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting production database server issues
  • Experience with clustering and master-slave solutions for database systems
  • Experience with MySQL and similar alternatives, such as Percona, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL, is strongly preferred
  • Experience with MS SQL is a plus
  • Experience with database indexing, store procedures, triggers and views
  • Working knowledge of Shell Scripting (either Bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell) for various operating systems
  • Experienced running production database server environments including: maintenance, performance optimization, backup/restore, analysis and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Linux OS monitoring, maintenance, patching, firmware upgrades, user account administration, syslog, file system management and NFS
  • Experience with storage infrastructure a plus, including major platforms (EMC, NetApp, etc.), platform management products, and other storage-related technologies (fabric, replication, clustering, archiving)
  • Good knowledge of LAN/WAN architecture, TCP/IP, Firewall/VLAN configuration, Hardware-Based load balancing, encryption and network security best practices
  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix operating system administration is preferred including Red Hat, CentOS, and Oracle.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required as well as flexibility in job role and working hours during critical deliveries and operational issues
  • A natural sense of urgency, initiative and a positive team player philosophy to be reflected in daily work ethics
